Rubberband Shell

This study model was an introductory attempt at understanding some of the forces at work in shell systems. By simply rubberbanding straight basswood together, it creates a flexible network of members that are able to be bent into position. It illustrates why a simplified system like this is prone is failure, and provides a visual reference for future double curved shells and multi-layered systems.
