We elected to set aside our desire for a full-scale installation this quarter in favor of exploring and representing the role of parametric technology in the design process. We’ve split the work into two tracts:
Parametric Matrix: A iterative matrix of design solutions derived from the grasshopper definitions. We will digitally iterate through variables like shell typologies, grid density, and boundary conditions and fabricate a number of small scale models as proof of concept.
Accessibility Breakdown: Breaking down the logic behind the grasshopper definitions, outlining the process and their significance, and creating diagrams to illustrate the analytical approach of the final design solutions.
By focusing on the role of parametricism via gridshells vs gridshells themselves, we’re able to compile our design research into a legible process. The possibility for investigation into issues of scalability was left open for future discussion.
